How to Make Soothing Lavender Oil Bath Bombs

There isn’t much that can soothe the aches and pains of the body and ease the mind and soul like a nice, warm, leisurely bath. Aaahh, doesn’t it sound great?

Imagine if you could increase the stress-relieving power of your daily bath even more by harnessing the power of anxiety-reducing essential oils like lavender. Well, you can, by making a homemade bath or shower bomb infused with lavender oil.

Of course, you can buy bath bombs, but many of them contain fragrances or other chemicals that can be irritating to the skin. Making bath bombs at home is easier than you might think, and you can leave all the chemicals out.

DIY Lavender Bath Bomb Recipe

First, you’ll need a mold. Silicone molds work great for this, and they’re widely available at department stores and online. You can get creative with them and make extras for gifts, too. Here are a few we like:

Or you can use a metal mold to make round bath bombs that look like those you might buy ready-made. Here’s an example: Bath Bomb Mold 6 Set#AD

Here is a recipe you can try. You can add lavender oil directly to it or leave it out and simply add a few drops to each bomb before you put it in the bathtub:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Epsom salts#AD
  • 1/4 cup citric acid#AD (you can find this in the canning aisle of your grocery store, as well)
  • 3-4 teaspoons coconut oil (can use almond or jojoba, too)
  • 1 teaspoon pure lavender essential oil

Directions:

  • In a bowl, combine all dry ingredients, then whisk in coconut oil and lavender essential oil (or leave out as described above).
  • Press into molds, about 2/3 full. Mixture will bubble and “grow.”
  • Remove from molds after 5-10 minutes and allow to air dry the rest of the way for 24 hours.

You can also use these in the shower. Simply place one on the shower floor and let the water hit it.
