How to Destress Your Valentine’s Day When You’re Single

Valentine’s Day can be a little bit stressful for some people. The stress of finding the perfect gift, having the perfect date with your partner, and doing and saying all the right things can make the day less fun than we would like.

Those who are single can sometimes feel extra stress on Valentine’s Day. They might feel pressure to find a partner, sadness over not having someone to share the day with, or just plain irritation over the “day of love.” Luckily, there are some ways to have a great Valentine’s Day, whether you’re single or not. Here are some suggestions.

Celebrate Your Love for Yourself

The day of love doesn’t have to be about love for another person. It could be all about your love for yourself. Destress by making Valentine’s Day about self-indulgence, and do things that make you feel happy and pampered. Do an extra yoga class, binge-watch your favorite show on Netflix, pick up a book you’ve meant to make time to read but haven’t been able to, take a long, hot bath, or make yourself your favorite meal.

Be sure to choose non-destructive indulgences for the day, things that really make you feel self-love.

Do a Secret Valentine’s Day Gift Exchange

If you know other people who are single and not really looking forward to Valentine’s Day, you can organize a secret Valentine’s Day gift among them. Exchange names and then spend some time thinking of the perfect gift for your person and how to leave the gift for them without being caught. This can be a really fun way to spend the days leading up to Valentine’s Day, and it’s a way to celebrate the love in your friendships.

Celebrate Your Love for Your Pet

Valentine’s Day is all about love, and whom do we love more than our pets? You can destress on Valentine’s Day by spending some extra time with your cat or dog (or hamster, bunny, or whatever type of pet you have). Pets don’t know anything about Valentine’s Day, but they do know about love, so spending some extra time with them is sure to increase your feelings of well-being and decrease any anxiety or stress you’re feeling about Valentine’s Day.

Throw a Valentine’s Day Party

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about couples’ activities. You could buck the trend and throw a Valentine’s Day party, inviting all of your friends and family. It can be a lot of fun to decorate, meal plan, and come up with games and activities for Valentine’s Day for a group of people.

Great tips! I absolutely love the idea of the “secret Valentine.” I’m going to ask some of my friends if they want to do that.
